Anyone who works the land knows it: a field is never uniform.

Even within the same plot there can be areas that yield more, areas that suffer drought more severely, less vigorous plants, or parts of the crop that respond differently to fertilisation.

Many of these differences, though, only become obvious to the naked eye once the problem is already well advanced.

Precision agriculture makes it possible to look at the field differently.

Using drones fitted with dedicated sensors we can collect vegetation data and build georeferenced maps that show, zone by zone, how the crop is responding.

Not to replace the experience of the farmer or the agronomist, but to give them one more tool for making decisions.

The survey

From the flight to the field map

The drone flies over the plot and captures high-resolution imagery and multispectral data. The images are then processed into a digital, georeferenced representation of the field.

Depending on the goal of the survey, we can produce deliverables that help you:

  • capture and digitally document the plot
  • analyse the uniformity of the crop
  • identify zones with differing vigour
  • flag possible stress situations early
  • compare different areas of the same field
  • follow how the crop develops over time
  • support decisions around fertilisation
  • focus site visits and checks on the areas showing anomalies

The result is a map that tells you what is happening in the field.

Fertilisation

Fertilising better means knowing where it is needed most

Spreading the same quantity of fertiliser across the whole plot assumes that every zone of the field has the same characteristics. In reality that is rarely the case.

Vegetation analysis makes it possible to highlight areas that respond differently and to identify zones worth a closer agronomic look. Combined with knowledge of the soil, any analyses available and the agronomist’s experience, this data can become an important basis for planning a more rational, more targeted fertilisation.

The objective is simple:

use resources where they may genuinely be needed, avoiding blanket interventions and getting to know your own land better and better.

One more tool for the agronomist

Experience and presence in the field remain essential. The drone does not replace the agronomist’s site visit: it makes it more effective.

Instead of observing only a few points of the plot, the survey gives a complete view of the crop and quickly reveals the zones that deserve attention.

Maps can therefore become support for:

  • setting priorities for site visits
  • comparing different zones of the same plot
  • monitoring how an issue develops
  • assessing the effects of the interventions carried out
  • building a digital history of the field

More information does not necessarily mean more complication.

It means arriving in the field already knowing where to look.

Viticulture

Particularly useful in the vineyard

In Friuli the vineyard is not just a crop. It is landscape, work, tradition and an important part of the identity of the region.

Precisely because of its structure and the value of the production, viticulture is one of the areas where drone monitoring can offer particularly interesting information. A survey provides an overview even across large plots and highlights differences in vigour between rows or vineyard zones that need closer attention.

By repeating the acquisitions at the most significant moments of the season it also becomes possible to observe how the vegetation develops and to compare data over time.

And for arable crops?

Maize, cereals and other arable crops cover surfaces that are often difficult to inspect uniformly from the ground. The drone captures an overall view of the plot quickly and brings any inconsistencies to light.

That makes it far easier to pinpoint the areas that need specific checks, instead of working blind across the entire surface.
